Creek Critters

A few selected aquatic invertebrates seen and photographed through a dissecting microscope. All of these critters were taken from Wilson Creek in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia on Sunday, November 8th.

I am just learning how to use the scope , so consider this a trial run. One of my self-appointed projects is to study both pond and stream inverts through his lens, and share what I discover.
The first three, pictures are of a Mayfly larva 's tail, hind quarters and head. The next four are of a Dragonfly larva. Note the wing nubs in the second picture. Finally, two pictures of a Caddisfly larva case, built by the larva for protection.
